Because the commercials are always a highlight at our
Lenten Soup Suppers (“It’s a real hot item, Jerry’s Bread!”), this year the
DLC confirmation mentors and mentees are trying something new. The
February 29th Soup Supper skit will be a “Commercial Competition” – where each confirmation student will
produce and act in a commercial to sell the audience a Bible.
But not just any Bible. Each student will be touting
the features and benefits of his/her own, unique Bible. As with all
advertising, we will take liberties with the truth. (One Bible might be
autographed by Moses. Another might be autographed by Brad Pitt…)
At the end of the commercials, the Soup Supper studio
audience will choose the winning Bible salesperson. Fabulous prizes
include leftover soup, cookies and such.
Here’s our
challenge to other DLC groups: Let’s
have a similar “Commercial Competition” for every Soup Supper this season.
We’re looking at you:
·
Bell Choir members – Expound on why
your bells are better!
·
Women’s Circle – Pontificate on your favorite Lutheran Pot Luck
recipe! (A Green Jello vs. Green Bean Casserole throwdown!)
·
Sunday School Kids – Who’s better: Gilbert or Stephanus, and why?
·
Choir Members – Why not wax poetic on your favorite hymn?
·
Council Members – Sell the church! (Yikes. That doesn’t sound
right.) What we mean is, promote the characteristics that make DLC
unique.
Let’s have some fun with this! Let Pastor know if
your group is ready for a “Commercial Competition” during Soup Supper.
Cordially,
Confirmation Kids & Mentors
