Call Tracy Lamphere Youth Chair for questions or ride 764-8519

All High Schoolers Welcome!

High School Mission Team

Destination: New Orleans (or N’awlins)

Our High School Mission Team, comprised of 7 highly motivated students, are traveling to New Orleans this year on a mission to do God’s work in an area that still has much need!  The trip will be taken August 3-8 (with extra days for traveling), and will be led by 2 fabulous congregation members – Lori Vogel and Paul Brandenburg.  It is sure to be a rewarding, fulfilling, and fun experience for all.  Stay tuned for more information about future fundraisers and events run by the mission team and their families!

Revival Choir

We still need High School and Middle School students to join the Revival Choir.  It’s not like your normal choir – we do songs with God, and, if we get enough members, we will play instruments and do choreography (but don’t let that scare you!).  We will not rehearse again until Confirmation class starts up again in January.  Have a great break!

High School Youth Ministry

Deerfield Lutheran's High School Ministry seeks to support the shifting needs and interests of older youth by helping them explore important faith and life issues in a way that engages their hearts, answers their questions, and changes their lives. There is focus on nurturing faith and building relationships through service to others, exploring teen issues from a faith perspective, and teen fellowship.

Confirmation Update:

All 6th - 9th grade students/parents:  Attending worship, Middle School KAIR group or High School group, and acolyting are all vital parts of growing in your faith and an expectation of confirming your baptism at the end of 9th grade.  If you are behind in these requirements please contact Pastor immediately to determine how to get back on track.

9th Grade Confirmation                                                                            The focus will be on becoming disciples of Jesus Christ through their lifestyles, beliefs, values, and involvement in the church and greater community.  This stage of confirmation is a time of growth and deeper commitment.  Students are matched with an adult “Mentor/Friend” who are committed to sharing their faith journey and guiding students through activities and discussions that focus on Christian discipleship.  Through Wednesday night sessions with mentors, students will explore their personal faith in Jesus Christ and prepare to affirm their Baptism.  A mentor supports parents and is an advocate for youth in the congregation.

Mentor
Mentor Program Builds Relationships in Christ Confirmands and their adult mentors from Deerfield Lutheran Church journey together on an Emmaus walk in the woods near Cambridge. Talking and discussing various issues and sharing communion helped them to reflect on how each will live out their confirmation promises to God. As one confirmand declared, “this was my favorite activity we had during our 3 years of confirmation - I felt very special and close to God!” Their faith journey continues as they affirm their baptism through Confirmation. This is an important element in the Confirmation program at Deerfield Lutheran.

At Deerfield Lutheran Church, there is a shared belief that the greatest witness of faith in any person’s life comes from relationships with other faithful people, especially parents and other significant adults in the church and community. Preparing youth to affirm their baptism  is a life long process: at baptism, Faith Chests are given which include materials to help parents share their faith with their child; Bible are given at 3 years old and 3rd grade; chalices are made for first communion at 4th grade; 6th grade through high school involves focused learning on the Lord’s Prayer, Ten Commandments, and the Baptismal Creed, a deeper understanding of scripture  as it relates to their lives, and service activities to involve them in the greater community. This time of preparation is to learn more about Christianity and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Relationships are a strong focus at Deerfield Lutheran - relationship between students and God, between students and their parents and mentors, and among students and their peers.

What has traditionally been a two-year confirmation ministry is now spread out to give faith-questioning preteens and teens many opportunities to learn and experience the love of God in a way that is age-appropriate, family-centered, and meaningful and relevant to young people’s lives.  Between the spring of 8th grade and the spring of 9th grade, students focus on becoming disciples of Jesus.  Students are matched with an adult mentor - a church member who commits to sharing their own faith journey and guiding a student in exploring Christian beliefs, values, and involvement in the church and the great community. The relationship between mentor and mentee is one of growth and deeper commitment to faith. Through discussions of faith-life issues, fun group activities and service projects that focus on Christian discipleship, students learn that confirmation is just the beginning of their life of faith.
